Has your book club considered reading a book or books by the authors who will be visiting this year? There are lots to choose from.

Read by the Sea is initiating a new pilot program called “Pageturners”.  We are purchasing 12 copies of the latest book by one of the upcoming Read by the Sea writers, and making the entire set available on a monthly rotation to book clubs in the area.  We are hoping that this will encourage book clubs to read and discuss the works of some of our authors prior to their appearance at Read by the Sea.

This year we are offering Coventry, by Helen Humphreys, one of our authors for 2010.

Coventry, a cathedral city bombed to ruins on November 14, 1940, provides not only the backdrop for Helen Humphreys's latest novel, but could also claim to be a central character. Alongside Harriet Marsh and Maeve, two women who fleetingly meet in the city at the start of the First World War, and who will fatefully be drawn together again on the night of the Second World War blitz, Humphrey's clean and vivid prose gives the burning city a life, albeit briefly, as the bombs fall and buildings crumble.

Drawing on actual events of that horrific night in 1940, Coventry is an astounding work, at once tense and lyrical, shocking and exquisite. Touching on themes of love, loss, loneliness and remembrance, Humphreys has crafted a story that will seize readers' hearts and imaginations.

If your book club is interested in reading Coventry sometime between March and July, please let us know right away.  We will try to reserve the books for the month that you request.

We also have a set of 10 books for teens, A Perfect Gentle Knight, by Kit Pearson.  These books are available for loan to library reading groups, classroom teachers and homeschoolers.

We would love to see you and your book club at Read by the Sea.  Don't forget to mark July 24th  on your summer calendar.
